Whale Watching is our recurring segment where we share the most significant options purchases by smart money from the previous trading day.

This META repeater triggered for next month and it’s certainly interesting because of how OTM it is. META lagged for a lot of this year but it has all of the sudden woke up and making some noise. I don’t know if it can push into the $800’s by August but if very well could. These buys were coming in in bulk yesterday as a lot of contracts were being bought up. This should be an interesting one to monitor and see how it plays out. I didn’t buy any of these yesterday but it’s on my watch list to keep an eye on today.

SPY is down a bit premarket and has slipped into some negative gamma territory. This negative gamma territory comes with more volatility and unpredictability as dealers must hedge by buying or selling in the direction the market is already heading which amplifies moves. The biggest exposure on the board is actually on tomorrow’s expiration with a 750 strike. 754 is the zone where we would climb back into positive gamma and price action could slow down. On days like today is shaping up to be, I always say to be quick and take profits off of the table quickly as the unpredictable nature of negative gamma will punish you if you don’t.
